The much awaited sequel to the highest grossing R rated superhero movie of all time delivers to the fullest and boy is it a treat to watch! Genius marketing tactics, over the top violence, meta jokes galore and a possible contender for best original song at the Oscars puts this one right up there with the most entertaining films of 2018.

Marvel has accustomed us as an audience to expect the usual quip here and there but Deadpool 2 goes all out and director David Leitch and his writers who according to DP himself are the "Real Villains Here" deliver a gut busting array of jokes and references into every single dialogue they can, to make it an absolute treat to watch (for the geeks of course. Casual movie go-ers would find it a nightmare to keep up with honestly).

The film begins with a darker tone but soon shifts to what can now be referred to as usual 'Deadpool fair' with plenty of 4th wall breaks and self referential jabs at not just this movie but all superhero movie tropes in general. It even goes as far as giving us an almost James Bond-esque credits sequence which paired with the voice of the inimitable Celine Dion provides us with the iconic Canadian pairing of Celine and Ryan(Reynolds) we never knew we needed.

A big criticism about this movie has been regarding the fact that there is no clear cut "purist" story line during the entire film even though our not-so-friendly neighborhood Deadpool constantly references the 3 acts that bring a story together. Personally I feel like Deadpool is the sort of film that doesn't really require a 3 structure act to bring the film together. The ultra violence, constant cussing and rib-tickling comedy is good enough to make sure the audience goes home happy.

A couple of surprises in the film that I found extremely enjoyable were the vast array of cameos and surprise appearances, the huge swerve regarding the members of the X-Force and the wonderful performances from newly introduced characters Domino (Zazie Beets), Firefist (Julian Dennison of Hunt for the Wilder People fame - HIGHLY RECOMMEND BTW) and of course Mr. I Want to Play Every Villain in the MCU, Josh Brolin as Cable.Overall, a very entertaining "family" oriented film (not really) and a joy to watch from beginning to end. Do catch it at the theater nearest to you if you get the opportunity.

PS: The post credit scene might just be the best in all Marvel films EVER!!!!

Verdict - 3.5/5 Chimichangas

Downside - Bags of entertainment but very little substance

Similar to - Deadpool 1 with a shade of Terminator and Suicide Squad
